I was wondering if anyone gets negative responses for coloring their dogs or as a groomer offering this service? I was thinking of offering this service at my salon, I would be the only one in the area doing it, so that would make me "unique" in this area. But I'm wondering how well received this has been for other groomers offering to color dogs. Thanks

What kind of color dyes do you apply to your dogs? I use a gel type color dye but once applied it would runoff the dogs fur. I have seen in your videos that the color does not run off but it stays in the area that was applied. What kind of vegetable dye do you use?

You get your good and bad comments when dying dogs. You just have to understand that the people who are negative about it are that way becasue they are uneducated about the subject. For when people say "Oh thats cruel" Ask them Why? My dogs get so much more attention and thats the #1 thing dogs love the most. attention. Plus, what are they compairing Cruelity too? People who purchase a puppy for christmas because it was cute, then 7months to 2 years later dump it off at the spca because its out of control and no longer cute. Thats cruel to take away its only family. How about the people who do not brush their dogs so they matt up so tight that their legs get fused together, ears so matted and stuffed with hair with a raging infection. on and on.. I guess to make along story short, be ready to educate. Different products need to be used in a different ways. First you must assess the dog if he or she is colour worthy. If they do not have good table mannors and just is very rude, do not push it. Second you must see the skin. If its a healthy dog with no alergies or think pink skin, its okay. Third, make sure they have not cuts or sores. clean hair and a clean dog is a must. Now with your happy dog with great table mannors is ready for colour. expect mess.. Make sure you have rubber gloves, towels you can get coloured, grooming loops that will get perminantly stained (Do not use them durning regular grooming or their could be roque colour transfer) Some products that are safe for dogs I use is Manic Panic Other groomers use Avitar. I havent tried that yet. They are semi dyes and will stain very well. But each colour has its own lasting power. You must test with each hair type how long you might need to let the colour sit before you wash it off. For a temperary fun, you can use blow pens, they normaly wash out in 1-3 washes and are great for stencil work. Or just to all that little bit of bling with out the great heep of mess. Otherwise you need to just practice.
